2022 Enclave vs 2021 Enclave
Living in western Illinois can require a versatile car that can take you from school to work and back home and handle intense weather in the winters. Many families love the Buick Enclave for this because of its stylish exterior and versatile capabilities. With the new 2022 model, many of the desirable features have been upgraded and made standard, so if you are in the market for a new SUV, consider giving this one a test drive. Here are some key differences between the 2021 Enclave and the newer model.
Trims

2022 has streamlined its trim offerings by cutting the preferred trim and elevating its basic trim level to the Essence with the optional Sport Touring Package. The 2021 Preferred trim included a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a color touch screen for infotainment, and Buick's QuietTuning technology.
In the 2022 model, the Essence trim offers those same features, along with a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, leather-appointed first- and second-row seating, and wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The second level trim of the 2022 Enclave is the Premium, which includes all the same features as the Essence and adds a few more infotainment system perks. This trim adds a Bose 10-speaker audio system, which creates a more defined and luxurious sound than the basic trim. It also has a color head-up display, which projects the speed, gas levels, and mileage on the windshield to limit the time and range the driver has to look away from the road. It also has HD surround vision and a rear camera mirror as an additional safety feature.
The Premium trim also has massage front seats in addition to the heating, which is a luxurious feature to add and a selling point if you are someone who loves long drives or road trips.
The luxurious Avenir trim includes all these features and more as the highest trim level and an exclusive styled grille, 20-inch aluminum wheels, a moonroof, and a rear fixed skylight. These additional style features add an elevated feel from the Premium trim.
Exterior
The 2022 Buick Enclave exterior is an updated version of the 2021 offering, with slightly more sophisticated detailing. This upgrade in style is obvious in the slimmer headlights and the reshaped grille that emphasizes the chrome strakes.
Buick has also added LED headlights and running daytime lights to increase visibility for the driver. The taillights on the exterior of the Enclave also got an upgrade and were redone with chrome. On the 2021 Enclave, the chrome trim extended into the taillights, but the updated design adds a subtle appearance to the back of the Buick.
Buick also restyled the front and rear bumpers and redesigned the wheels to give the entire body a more modern look. The 2021 Enclave is available in eight colors, which are Summit White, Quicksilver Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic,
Red Quartz Tintcoat, Dark Slate Metallic, White Frost Tricoat, and Rich Garnet Metallic. The 2022 Enclave adds rich exterior colors like Emperor Blue Metallic, Cherry Red Tintcoat, and Sage Metallic while dropping some older colors to provide a broader range of impactful options.
The engine and overall performance of the 2022 Enclave maintain the horsepower and comfort that customers have come to expect from the model. Both the 2021 and 2022 Enclave have 310 horsepower from their 3.6-liter V-6 engine and its nine-speed automatic transmission.
Both years can tow up to 5,000 pounds, plenty of weight for a trailer or outdoor gear you may want to latch onto the back of your midsize SUV. While front-wheel drive is still standard, all-wheel drive is optional on all trims.
Interior
The 2021 Buick Enclave has a modern and comfortable interior that seats seven in three rows. It comes in four basic interior colors: ebony seats with ebony interior accents, shale seats with ebony interior accents, chestnut seats with ebony interior accents, and dark galvanized seats with ebony interior seats.
The 2022 Enclave continues to streamline its offerings to maintain a clearer aesthetic without confusing customers. Buick dropped the different brown and gray offerings to focus on the dark galvanized gray with ebony interior accents.
It also dropped the chestnut and shale seats to offer beige with the ebony interior accents. Both interior colorways are offered in perforated leather-appointed seats, aligning with the more luxurious feel of the 2022 Enclave. The Premium trim also features a wood trim.
In addition to the streamlined colorways, the 2022 Enclave updates its interiors with a new steering wheel design and center console. The driver now has a push-button shifter on the front console, similar to the Envision crossover.
It also offers a new wireless phone charger and wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility, making connecting your devices with the infotainment system easier to access and using voice commands to control without removing your hands from the steering wheel. These features can make it easier to control the music and navigation within your vehicle, improving the overall driving experience.
Safety
By eliminating the lowest trim for the 2022 Enclave offerings, Buick has made some pretty luxurious features the new standard for its crossover SUV. For example, the front camera system and improved camera mirror are available on all trims.
It also has several standard safety features like front and rear park assist, front pedestrian braking, lane change alerts with side blind zone alerts, and lane-keeping assist with a lane departure warning. You can add the basic trim's front and rear park assist as an optional safety feature.
Many of these safety features were optional or available for higher trims for the 2021 Enclave. Updating its basic trim to include these standard features elevates the entire line and communicates a more luxurious direction for the Buick Enclave moving forward.
The 2022 Enclave includes everything that customers have come to expect and appreciate about the midsize SUV crossover from Buick.
